Why This Festival Matters

This is not just another club weekend with a handful of local acts. Sofia Waste Water System turns 10 and celebrates with two nights bringing together 20 bands from around the world — from Swedish legends Grave and Finnish masters Rotten Sound, to Spanish goregrind pioneers Haemorrhage and UK anarcho-punk veterans The Varukers. The bill spans the entire extreme music spectrum: old-school death, grindcore, crust, slam, goregrind, hardcore and sludge.

For the Bulgarian underground scene this is a rare chance to see bands that rarely or never come to Bulgaria — Guttural Slug, Epicardiectomy, Formoli, Deadspawned, Avoid Humanity. At the same time, the organisers keep a strong local presence with Rejection, Razgruha, Church Of Destiny, Subterra, Menstrual Cocktail, Lords, Crook Mentality, Staphylococcal Shit Poisoning and Lure.

The format is two-day, with two distinct programmes — each day has its own character. Friday leans heavier towards death/slam/grind, Saturday adds crust and hardcore elements. This is not a festival where you come only for the headliner. You come for the whole experience, the atmosphere, the gathering of the community that Sofia Waste Water System has built over the last decade.

What to Expect from the Festival

Expect two days of intense music — short, aggressive sets, quick band changes and dense club energy. Each band gets between 30 and 45 minutes, with headliners getting a bit more time. The sound at Studio Orfei is geared towards heavy music — bass and drums are upfront, with vocals cutting over the top.

Do not expect pyrotechnics or elaborate stage sets. Expect raw, honest extreme music, delivered with energy and passion. The festival is for people who want to hear new bands, discover fresh sounds and immerse themselves in underground culture. If you are a fan of death metal, grindcore or hardcore, this is your weekend.

The programme runs long — from evening until late at night. Plan to stay for both days, because each day brings a different lineup and a different energy.

Practical Information

The festival takes place on 11–12 September 2026 at Studio Orfei, Sofia. Start times and exact schedules will be announced later, but doors usually open around 5:00–6:00 PM, with music starting around 6:00–7:00 PM and continuing until midnight or later.

Tickets are sold through the EasyPay/EPAYGO network at https://epaygo.bg/7775270684. The price is not fixed in the text, but based on similar events, tickets are affordable (around 20–30 BGN per day or a combined ticket). We recommend buying in advance, as Studio Orfei has limited capacity.

Studio Orfei is located in Sofia (exact address not given, but it is a well-known venue). Parking around the hall is limited, so we recommend using public transport or taxis. Wear comfortable shoes and expect the hall to be hot and crowded.

For visitors from other cities — keep in mind the festival is two days and you may need accommodation in Sofia. There are hotels and hostels in the area, but booking in advance is a good idea.
