Why this concert matters

Mandylion pulled the band out of its heavier early period and made them a template for atmospheric gothic rock. An anniversary only works with Anneke on stage. She is back. This is one era live, not just another Dutch name in Plovdiv.

Stone and quiet suit this sound better than a club. Voice, keys and pauses need air. The theatre does not forgive chatter. When it lands, the night is closer to a performance than a metal gig.

On the 2026 calendar this is one of the few dates where atmosphere is the point, not a backdrop to riffs.

What to expect from the set

The core should be Mandylion: Strange Machines, Leaves, In Motion, Sand and Mercury. Around that, Nighttime Birds and the later Anneke years.

Do not expect the pre-1995 death/gothic bite. If that is the Gathering you want, you will hear a different band. That is the right expectation.

Practical information

The stone is hard and a September night turns cold. Bring a pad and a layer. The mix is usually cleaner in the middle, not automatically in the front row.

Old Town access slows on a full night. Leave early if you are driving.
